Carmel Mission below.  Monk's quarters in Mission Bay Park Motel below that.  That's a joke.  And below that, San Juan Batista.  A long history to both, of course, extensively rebuilt in the 1880s, San Juan Batista after the '06 earthquake, and then a massive reconstruction in the 30's.  The courtyards of both are beyond serene.  Disneyland-like, almost, but 100 times better.  Photos of the Carmel Mission are here:
