Terrific video that Carlos made the day after I left -- with an old digital camera. It's about a walk up to an old mine in the hills across the stream from the new house. Note the bubbling hot spring (boiling hot) that feeds the pools down the road from the new house, and the old adobe walls of a house that use to be up there. With flashlights they all delved deeply into the guano-laden tunnel. Tons of bats come with the guano. Pretty awful, I can tell you. That night, my brother-in-law, Ruben, went to bed without bathing. Strangely enough, tens of bats entered through a loosely covered window of an unfinished second floor bathroom that night. Survivors report swarms of bats whipping through the upstair rooms during the night. Ruben bathed the following day and the bats went their way and did not return. There's a lesson in theree somewhere. In other news, James was stung by a scorpion. He was taken lickety-split to the clinic, where he was placed in a chair and observed for 90 minutes. Fortunately, his extra-terrestrial origins have left him immune to scorpion venom. Actually, not something to joke about.
